Cheap bananas threaten farmers’ futures

Posted on May 22, 2014. Filed under: Bananas |

Alberio Alfonso ‘Foncho’ Cantillo is a 43 year old farmer from Colombia whose livelihood depends on bananas.  He knows the difference a fair, stable price for his bananas can make, because the majority of the ones he grows he sells are fairtrade.

However Foncho also knows that our favourite fruit snow sold so cheaply by most UK supermarkets that many banana farmers and workers are being trapped in poverty.  Shockingly many still can’t afford to put enough food on the table for their families or provide the basics such as education and healthcare.

We need to stick with Foncho to make bananas fair.  Sign the petition and find out more about Foncho and the campaign.
